They stopped adding photos back in 2013. Now and again, they'll remove more sets. There's a blog, but they only update it sporadically. The posts tend to announce planned site outages, so they are more informational than entertaining. They also give members a heads-up on other important news, like when they increased the daily download limit in 2021.

The Bandwidth And Security section fully fleshes out their download policy. Most of us appreciate transparency, and they spell out their reasoning for their restrictions in black and white. There's a 60GB/day limit, and you can only initiate eight downloads simultaneously. Their security algorithm will block you for 12 hours if you exceed the limit. They acknowledge that you can still download the entire library in a month, but the limits help them control spikes in bandwidth use.

There are no bonus sites, but that's to be expected in some ways. Desperate Amateurs started as someone's hobby before growing into the successful indie site it is today. It gets its webmaster's full attention, and they haven't spread themselves thin by trying to start a whole network. Without other sites of their own to offer as bonuses, they might have turned to third-party producers. But maybe they felt like that would be going against their independent spirit.

Generally, the site's usability is great. They even include a link to the old version of the site, for fans of tradition. But the responsive design can cause some issues. I had multiple issues trying to click UI elements because they were positioned underneath other ones.

Do I Recommend It?

The site stays true to its vision and continues to update regularly. Even without bonuses, you'll enjoy your time with these down-to-earth performers.
