If you take a look at our Porn Stars category, you’ll mostly see beautiful babes staring back at you, like Ariella Ferrera. It got me thinking, especially after the good folks at AVN dedicated their July issue to male pornstars and posted the article Men of Porn: Thespians and Heartthrobs, which gave me both food for thought and fodder for my blog this week.

What made the article particularly interesting is that it referenced classic porn and how the storylines were more fleshed out, so that the performers not only had to know how to act, but also how to have sex on camera. They also spoke with various directors, including Bree Mills (she’s behind Girlsway, who explained what they look for in a porn actor and named some of their favorites. A lot of their top picks have appeared on Pure Taboo, which is a real who’s who of the porn world with leading ladies like Adriana Chechnik, backed by top male talent including Tommy Gunn, Little Hands and (not on their list, but a star in my books) Alex Legend.

Another site that came up often in the article was Wicked Pictures. Their model index only seems to list female performers, but I know that you can find some of the DVDs they mentioned in the article on the site, like An Inconvenient Mistress featuring Ryan Driller. Other dropped names include Marcus London, Lucas Frost and Michael Vegas – actually, Mr. Vegas shows up on a number of sites. Apparently, you can also see him popping up on Digital Playground, Brazzers and Sweet Sinner.

The first part of the article was actually about Gonzo Gods and Shot Callers, which captured a different type of performer, one who was focused less on acting and more on directing or simply getting down to business. If you were thinking that the selection thus far is lacking in the diversity department, you’ll be glad to know that two of the fellows who came to my mind did indeed make the list. Lexington Steele and Prince Yahshua are the type of talented and well-hung performers who might prove to be a hard act to follow for us men who are mere mortals. And, of course, a challenge for the ladies to swallow!
