Pros and Cons
- some HD cams
- lots of North American performers
- some nudity in free rooms
- no advanced search engine
- expensive private chats
- no true community despite tagline
The last time we checked out Camster.com they were in the process of changing over everything from the old Naked.com site. At the time you could still access the old interface, but at this point the switch is long since done and many people visiting won't even remember the old site or even think about accessing that old design.
Camster is a pretty good-looking site with a very basic, but easy to understand, live cam design. On the right side there's a category section. Some, when selected, displayed "no results found," but that might be because there were none online at that moment. But before I get to the live cam stuff, let me tell you about a few other things.
The site is big on selling you live cam clips and homemade amateur videos. There's a video section, but I almost spilled my coffee when I saw the price tag. The majority looked to be asking $9.99 per video, some even higher! This seems kind of crazy and I'm thinking you can probably find some of them online for free. Another way to get the videos is to find a girl you like with videos and then join her "club," which will cost you $19.99 per month and get you access to all her movies. On the bright side, most performers offer a ton of high-res pictures for free.
The cooler community features on Camster.com are restricted to premium members. For an additional $19.95/month you can private-message performers in live chat, send and receive emails, share photos and videos with performers, create your own profile, which only the performers can see, and get access to private member-only sections of performer profiles.
I'm of the opinion that this should all be free. They're probably shooting themselves in the foot by charging for this. They could build a genuine community around the site if all of this was free AND members could interact with one another. And the last thing to say about the price concerns the private shows, which cost $5.99/minute. The girls are great, but that price is still on the expensive side.
When I was browsing the site (morning/noon EST), there were 119 live performers, about 50 with HD streams. Not bad for that time of day, but I would've liked to see a higher percentage rockin' the high-def cams. The company behind the site is based in Florida and recruits a lot of US performers for their shoots and they leveraged this for their cam site, so the good thing is that you'll meet a lot of US-based girls on Camster. The bad thing is that the type of girls reflect the ones they look for for most of their shoots. Mostly thin Latinas and white girls. Did I say that's a bad thing? Well, it might be for those of you into thick girls or ones into fetishes.
The site encourages tipping and performers can set tip goals for them to do a show in free chat. You can add girls to your favorites so you can always access them quickly. There are no comments or user ratings allowed and no advanced search engine, which is something I really miss when it isn't available on a live cam site. Camster.com is optimized for mobiles, but it was a bit slow and clunky on both an iPhone and Android phone. The streams I watched were slightly choppy and of average quality.
Overall, the site has potential, but I would like to see them work on the user experience more (add an advanced search, make some of the "premium" features free) and see more of their girls using HD cams. For now, though, Camster is worth a quick look, but there are better options out there.
