Gay Video Base Review

In the past when I'd get a DVD site to review, I'd often write about how convenient it was versus leaving home to visit a video store. Nowadays, though, people get their Hollywood films online and most brick and mortar locations are long gone. So the main selling point of Gay Video Base is the ability to download the scenes as well as stream them, making the site more desirable than the many video-on-demand ones.

As you might expect (and it's often true of DVD archive sites), nothing on GayVideoBase is exclusive. You also might not be surprised to learn that some of the scenes don't look like the most recent of releases. Even if they're not all circa 1980s classics, most are at least five years old.

Personally I enjoy vintage pre-condom flicks, because the pornstars back then tended to be ruggedly handsome, with bodies left in their natural state (not shaved or even trimmed) and I'm a sucker for a moustache and sideburns. There are keywords and a list of categories that you can use to help track these kinds of scenes down, or you can type "classic" into the search box. These features are helpful, because it's a bit of a pain to browse the scenes. You can't jump to specific pages (first and last ones are exceptions), so you're stuck moving around by a few pages at a time.

However, I'm not sure if the more than 1,520 DVDs (over 6936 scenes) are categorized properly. I'm probably getting accurate results when I search for "black" and almost a quarter of the flicks turn up, but other categories, like twinks or straight, aren't showing believable results compared to what I'm seeing just from browsing the content on my own.

At any rate, you can stream and download the flicks in two MP4 files, the better of which consistently delivers good-quality playback. There are even some HD flicks, but you'll need to really look to find them. They used to be easy to locate, but with the site having changed its design, that's no longer the case. One thing that hasn't changed is that the site still doesn't provide you with any photos.

There's certainly already a lot to see here and the amount just keeps on growing, with new porn posted daily. So despite the issues with the navigation and the fact that nothing is exclusive, in addition to some of it being dated, if you don't want to go the gay VOD route, Gay Video Base offers tons of downloadable DVDs and is worth checking out.
