Before you let the name scare you off, let me assure you that I Shot Myself has nothing to do with self-inflected gunshot wounds. Instead, it's actually an erotic, web-based art project built entirely of photos and videos that women from around the world have shot themselves.
Just about anyone can submit pics and vids to the IShotMyself project, but there are a few rules that need to be followed. For one, only submissions from female contributors are being accepted at this time. Also, all pictures and vids must feature and have been taken by the artist herself. A third rule states that the model must have a part of her body touching the camera when she shoots herself. The final and most important rule is that the artist must appear nude in her material.
The site pays the artists $200 for each accepted submission and everyone who contributes gets the chance to win a monthly prize of $500. Monthly bonuses are also paid out to contributors based on how many clicks their content generates.
It would seem that a lot of women have taken an interest in this project because the site offers a ton of content. As I write this, there are 403 videos and 6,120 photo galleries and new content is being posted on a regular basis, with the video collection growing by about eight vids a month.
Since everything is user-submitted and it comes from all corners of the globe, there's a lot of variety in both the look of the models and in the way they present themselves. Some of the material is really artsy and even quite personal, so it makes for interesting viewing.
All of the movies can be downloaded in MPEG files that typically offer good-quality playback. You can also stream most of the vids in Windows Media and QuickTime files that look about as good, but the streams open your own media player. As for the photos, they all appear to be high-res and the galleries can be saved in Zip files. There's an average of 45 pictures per set.
Members don't get much in the way of extras, but there is a forum that they can access and each artist seems to have her own profile. Guests are also invited to comment on the many movies and photo sets, so feel free to leave feedback and constructive criticism.
I Shot Myself aims to "make a bold statement about nudity, fame and the Internet" and, as such, it's far from your typical porn site. If you go in knowing and accepting that, you won't be disappointed by this unique website.
