At any rate, NearbySex.net is a little site that it seems has in the past dreamed big, but with limited success, so far. If it scored better than might be expected, it's simply because most of its services appear to be free of charge.
Signing up is simple, as you can skip most of the steps involved beyond giving the most basic info. Generally, whenever a site does that, you expect to see plenty of blank profiles. The problem with Nearby Sex is that it's so small, that it seems almost unfair to judge quality in terms of a ratio. Doing so almost counts in its favor, since the 30 to 35 profiles with pics and a similar amount of completed descriptions, equals about 10 percent of the total membership.
Nevertheless, the site might fair better if it made more of the signup process mandatory. Not completing the information, does stop you from using their perfect match system, but since there aren't many profiles to browse or search, you can go through them one-by-one anyway. You can search by American zip code, but other countries are limited to city or state searches. You can also narrow the search down by much of the same criteria provided when filling out a profile.
As I implied in the intro, according to a site news update from Halloween 2006, NearbySex claimed that it had launched a recent initiative to attract new members to broaden its membership base. Obviously, that didn't do to well, as there are only somewhere between 300 and 400 members globally. However, in praise of their limitedly successful efforts, at least unlike some huge online dating sites that pad their membership with seemingly fake ads, all these profiles are real.
In fact, I'm surprised that Nearby Sex hasn't done better. My surprise is because the site is incredibly inexpensive. Moreover, as far as I could tell after setting up a free account, I seemed to have access to all the services including email, instant messaging and a chat room. I could see all the profile details, although there is no last login date.
The forums and blogs appear to be inactive, but this is truly a full-service online sex dating community. It only seems that they need the word to get out, since what holds one back on thinking NearbySex.net is the bomb, is the lack of people joining the site, which could be easy to put right.
