Reviewing Porn

The good and the bad and the ugly about writing porn reviews.

Many people probably think that a porn reviewer has the luckiest job in the world. After all, you have access to tons of porn in just about every niche that exists! When I tell people what I do for a living, I get a mixed reaction, but most people seem envious. However, they don't know the half of it!

There is actually a lot of crap on the web. Certainly, there are more shitty websites out there than I had ever imagined, but then according to Google, there are about 14, 400, 000 porn sites available, so it's to be expected.

Certainly, it's not an enviable job when you have to sift through girls so ugly that they'd make their own mother wince from the horror, or that have bodies where you're practically praying for them to put their clothes back on. It's also not that desirable when you end up getting a site that has a pop-up hell or viruses. There is the bad and the ugly about writing porn.

On the other hand, there are some really excellent sites, and I love trying to weed these out from the millions of fair sites that exist. It's a total turn on to come across gorgeous girls or steamy sex. It's a blast trying to figure out which new model will become the next best thing in the porn industry.

When I first got into reviewing porn about a year ago, I was pretty in touch with numerous categories, but I had no concept about the wealth of niches. I didn't even know what half the acronyms, like CFNM (Clothed Female/Nude Male) were all about! I love to learn so now I know a hell of a lot more about porn and the industry than when I first started. In this way reviewing porn is both a challenge and a job that I approach with a sense of fun, adventure, pleasure and seriousness. It's a job that's more good than bad.

Apologies for taking so long, Guanja Master. I just recently started responding to comments ... like last week! ;)

Gonzo, huh? I think every niche has it's ups and downs and hopefully in the case of gonzo, a hell of a lot of them. I have not seen the sites you mention, so I can't respond to your opinion of them, and I have not viewed a 'true' gonzo site yet.

My opinion? Gonzo isn't much different than say cinema verite' to me. The whole point is to get as close to the 'real' action as possible and POV shots always give the experience of feeling present there infront of it and as it happens.

Plotlessness is not new. Stag films were always plotless and to the hardcore point. In this respect, much of porn is gonzo-like. Although, I have never been one to believe that doco techniques are without plot? I could say this is a cheap way to make porn, but again, I have not seen these sites.

It would help me greatly in answering your question, if I was better aware of your opinion about what in Gonzo is fresh and new to you?

Til next time. Cheers.
Sloth
