Pink Box by Joan Sinclair

I remember when Lynx was reviewing Asia Movie Pass. As is the case with most genuine content from Japan, the genitalia is blurred out of all scenes. They make up for this censoring by going to other extremes, like a ton of cream on some lady's face.

Lynx felt compelled to share with me a great Bukkake scene by asking me over to watch it on screen. Mentioned at the beginning of Lynx's review, it still sticks in my mind. Granted it was quite a sticky scenario.

An anchorwoman calmly reads the news as random men from the crew come up and shooting a load all over her face. She doesn’t miss a single beat as she repeats the headlines as if nothing unusual is happening.

Apparently, after just reading an interview about a new book called Pink Box by photographer Joan Sinclair, creativity and living out fantasies extends beyond film and right into real-life sex clubs.

The title Pink Box has special significance beyond the obvious as the color pink is euphemistically linked to the sex trade in Japan, similar to the North American term red-light. Moreover, the "Pink Box" is the name of a private dance room in the back of a well-known Osaka club.

According to Ms. Sinclair, sex is the second largest industry in Japan after automobiles. It took some gumption as a female journalist, especially a foreign one, to gain access but she managed it but in own words "it took a lot of singing karaoke with unsavory characters."

What she uncovered is a world of fake hospitals where nurses without panties care for their patients. All-you-can-grope fake subway cars filled with chicks in schoolgirl uniforms. She visited sexual harassment offices, where the men can tear the pantyhose right off of their secretaries.

It seems that in Japan, coming is cathartic. Clients live out forbidden fantasies about everyday life, in controlled simulations, for pleasure and stimulation. I bet importing this product might serve to be as successful as cars. Although, just as automobiles needed some redesigns for the North American market, they might need to rethink some "pink" for non-Japanese johns.
