Mobile Porn
Yesterday, I found another article about technology used to advance the interests of pornography, except this time the device is mainstream.
In an article by Adam Pasick reporting from London for Reuters (11/02/05), he explains that a subscription-based Usenet search engine called Guba is set to offer access to thousands of pornographic and non-pornographic video files specifically tailored for use with the latest generation of video-enabled Apple Ipods. Ironically, due to much litigation initiated by the music industry against file-sharing services, Guba won’t be offering MP3s, just video clips under 70 minutes long. According to Guba Chief Executive Thomas McInerney, "We can kid ourselves, but in the end it's probably porn that people want," although he did explain that the site has a "safe mode" to filter out adult content too.
Being curious as I am, I wondered what would prevent one from carrying along some clips from their favorite porn site, say one discovered on RabbitsReviews.com (insert blatant plug here), since that’s a reliable source without much searching. The answer is, “Nothing.” It’s only a question of having them saved in the proper format of MPEG-4 or .MOV. (See Apple's site for correct resolution, bit rate, etc.)
Now the busy but horny executive can sit at her desk watching dirty movie clips on her Apple Ipod while diddling herself with her Bluetooth enabled vibrator. Isn’t technology wonderful?

Guba has always tailored to the adult pornography crowd more so than other premium news server providers like Easynews or Giganews. Guba offers thumbnails of all the pictures in a newsgroup which makes it easy for adult surfers. I am curious to see if they will automatically combine rar parts to show complete movies like their competitior News2me.com does.
