Mainstream Nudity?

I was wondering if you guys have noticed the increasing amount of both female and male nudity in major film releases over the past couple of years. I remember growing up and catching the briefest glimpse of a supporting actresses' tit and thinking that I'd hit gold. Nowadays major stars are opting to bare all on camera to "further the story". I mean, whoever would have thought that the likes of Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, and Ewan McGregor would be willing to show all their goods on film for about seven bucks a ticket.

Some of the nudity does indeed make the plot of the story seem more realistic, but then there are other times when the nudity is just completely gratuitous and you can tell that it is intended to draw more audiences in to the theater than the plot line would alone. There are also increasing examples when nudity is broadcast before the film is actually released and then suddenly cut from the final version of the film before it hits the theaters. The biggest example of this is the much talked about full frontal scene of Colin Farrel in a recently released movie that never made it to the theaters but was the reason that a large majority of the audience paid their ticket price to see.

Other examples are Orlando Bloom and Anne Hathaway that have reportedly shown all in the director's cuts of their films and then when audiences arrive in the theaters they find out that these sexy scenes have been cut. All in all I think it is a sign of our more accepting society that major film stars are willing to take their clothes off on film but there remain stalwart non-nudity prudes who refuse to show even the merest glimpse of skin on screen no matter what the script calls for. Surely one of these days these stars will be convinced that it's their time to truly shine on film.
