Femme-made erotica and porn (Part 2 of 2)

Pornography made by men is a billion dollar business and has a long and lucrative existence. The meaning of porn itself comes from the Greek words for 'prostitute' and 'written material', or to write about prostitutes. The central subject has always been male pleasure, and taking into consideration the historical and objectified place of the prostitute as little more than a cum vessel, as previously mentioned, it's no wonder that porn has rarely spoken to female audiences.

The earliest known porn movie was from France in 1908 and conventions for porn were practically all but set in stone by a German film called Am Abend (1910) which was a 10-minute film depicting basically the same things we see today in any mainstream hardcore film that you can read on Rabbits Reviews. The plot, if you can call it that, begins with a solo masturbation scene, a man enters the room, the woman bypasses her pleasure, gives him a blowjob, and lets him fuck her until he cums. It's been basically the same plot for 96 years and there's truly never been much need to deliver anything different than what audiences have been getting all these years, but women want something different.

What they don't want are sexual stereotypes according to a 2001 article by Ed Rampell at AVN Online. Stereotypes can consist of anything from the cock-hungry slut who can't get enough to always erect penises, unrealistic moaning and screaming, misogynistic language, camera-view positions and of course the cum shot, all of which is over and done with in a matter of minutes.

What women do want is reality, substance, quality and something that doesn't bore them to tears or send them into hysterical fits of laughter. As one webmistress states in Rampell's article, women want to feel like they are an active part of a scene and not looking through a keyhole and I'd guess that female filmmakers from Anna Span, to Veronica Hart and Candida Royalle all deliver something a bit more inline with what female porn audiences truly desire.
